The Rock Czar’s first entry into the Blogosphere is sure to be a memorable one because of an important date coming up.July 10th, 2007 will mark the release of an album that has been long overdue. The Smashing Pumpkins are set to release “Zeitgeist.” This will be the bands first album in over seven years. It has been sad to see one of my favorite bands not release anything for so long but now that they are set to release Zeitgeist, I can’t be more thrilled. The Smashing Pumpkins have lead vocalist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin reunited after an extended split from the band. The band seems to be refocused and Billy has used that passion to write deep and powerful songs. The band has stated in numerous interviews that “this album will change your perspective on how we interpret music.” If this proves to be true then Zeitgeist might turn out to be one of the greatest albums of all time. The bands earlier albums were all about bringing that hardcore energy mixed in with the soft harmony of Corgan’s raspy voice. Two great examples of this are Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Each album had breakout songs yet had a consistent rhythm that made listening to both fresh and exciting. The current track that has garnered radio play has been the recently leaked “Tarantula”.After listening to the track a few times, I have grown to love the song. I definitely sense a different direction with where the band is heading but I like the end result. The band has not strayed from their roots and hopefully that helps this album attain “coveted” status among the bands audiophiles.
