This list is predominantly British (with some exceptions such as arcade fire, The killers and Tegan & Sara). My point being that all these people who are saying that Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine should be in there is not true because these are not big in Britain and never have been, whereas the bands/artists above are/have been big in Britain. And it's only fitting seeing as the music we listen to is the best anyway :-p.

Only bone I have to pick is that Arctic Monkeys, The cribs and the Libertines aren't listed... :-/
The Rock Czar  - Well...   |68.48.35.xxx |2008-06-22 00:07:14
I have to admit the music that Brits listen to is MUCH better these days. It doesn't mean that British music is better. Brits listen to plenty of GOOD American music too. Then again, here in America, people seem to prefer the likes of Nickelback, Three Doors Down, Seether. So pretty much any country listens to better music than us. Also, MBV and Sonic Youth (for the most part) don't belong on this list because it's between 2003-today. Lastly, I really don't like Arctic Monkeys, The Cribs, and The Libertines, so you wont be seeing them on here.

this is one of the worst list iv ever seen
Joe  - Ummmm...   |97.115.188.xxx |2008-06-21 13:42:33
Uh, tons of these bands are not British. Modest Mouse, New Pornographers, Interpol...I'm not going to list every band on here that isn't British but your argument makes no sense. Besides, why would it matter if they were ever big in Britain when the topic is indie rock music? Indie music doesn't have to be big.

Anyway, while there are certainly some different songs I personally would include, some people here have been out of line. Not everybody is going to have the exact same picks.
Joe  - Oh   |97.115.188.xxx |2008-06-21 13:43:26
Oh, one more thing. The Arctic Monkeys are seriously overrated. I'm glad they didn't make this list.
pessimystica   |75.50.56.xxx |2008-06-29 19:17:50
i don't really like The Arctic Monkeys either... but I do like The Libertines, & AM seemed like just a rip-off of them, & they were kinda over-hyped too. i would definitely put some Libertines on my list.

Whats all the yapping lads? You know, when I was in the war, we didn't even have a lot of music to listen to. We were always in the trenches maybe sometimes picking up radio calls from different signals, but not like today. In the olden days, music could sound good blasting from a transistor radio-that is the difference of it all today.

What do think the difference makes?

hey hey hey guess what.

the reason all you guys think this list sucks is becasue...

YOU THINK LISTENING TO SOME BAND NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF IS THE SHIT.

well news flash...

if no one had heard of these songs, trust me, you'd be all over it.
kim  - my 2 cents   |98.28.11.xxx |2009-01-10 00:04:46
I recently discovered this website and this is my first reply. It appears that some people get a little too worked up when trying to share their opinions to the point where they're not writing their thoughts in an intelligible manner. On the flip side, there are plenty of posts that I have enjoyed reading that have been well written.

On this list, I particularly enjoy Wolf Like Me, Rebellion, and He War.

If I could include any others, I would choose "Entertain" by Sleater Kinney, "Will You Smile Again For Me" by Trail of Dead, and "All The Wine" by The National. Depending on your personal considerations, you may or may not consider those indie rock, however, I do.

There are more songs I like on this list, but just didn't mention. I'm glad to see Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Cursive on the list.

Glad to see Mew and Explosions in the Sky in the list. But I think Well Thought out Twinkles should be higher up. That's a truly great song. Shouldn't be at the bottom IMO.

Alright list. i give props the person who said muse as they are amazing but don't really count as indie, also i don't count the killers or oasis as indie. arctic monkeys are ok i wouldn't put a lot of their stuff on there. i like interpol, also don't consider the white stripes indie.

the killers stuff from 'day and age' shouldn't count and neither should the new oasis, because both of those bands are already massively popular. also, where the hell is 'handlebars' by flobots? that should be easily in the top 10.

Rilo Kiley is an excellent choice.
And Black Cadillacs is, in my opinion, the greatest Modest Mouse song of all. So, good job!

Black Cadillacs is my favorite Modest Mouse song. Nice to see it recognized.
