This list is based primarily on two criteria. The depth and strength of the despair and of course the quality of the music. It's no secret that sad music happens to be my favorite, so there were a ton of deserving songs to choose from. I wanted to personally thank Russell for his suggestion! As always, let's see if you guys can best the Rock Czar with your own list of sad songs.

This was a user-recommended list? Wow! I can't belive I love so many sad songs including some that are seen here:

Californication and Under The Birdge by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers as well as Karma Police and No Surprises by Radiohead.

I really love November Rain by Guns N Roses also and I consider that to be one of the saddest songs I have ever heard.

I'm not saying I like the song but if you want to listening to something that is real sad and i mean REAL SAD listen to Hold On by Wilson Phillips. I have never known such an emotional song.

Now, for the reason I am commenting in the first place. This was a user-recommended list. I have an idea for you to consider. Top 50 Covers And Samples. I'd say you'd find this idea quite interesting.

Wendy - Extremely Depressing IP:222.154.160.28 | 2008-07-10 17:36:36
ouch. you say you are a fan of Alice In Chains and didn't even put in Am I Inside? That is extremely depressing. My friends all agree that it is easily the most doom and gloomy song they've ever heard and most of them have banned me from playign it in their presence because "it's so depressing, we can stand it, it's too unbearable".
