Top 20 Most Overrated Bands

Here I will list the top 20 bands that I believe receive too much attention, sales, critical acclaim, or credit these days.

1. Dave Matthews Band- On a list of my most hated bands they would also be no. 1. Everything about this band is annoying, ranging from Matthews’ incredibly irritating John Maier meets Eddie Vedder vocals to the annoying harmonica.

2. Nickelback- This abhorrent band, which I refer to as Nickelsack, is producing some of the lowest quality, least inspired music out there. Thus it should come as no surprise that they have a massive fan base and are all over the radio.

3. Fall Out Boy- There are three subcategories of rock which I detest: first is nu-metal, second is corporate rock, and third (and possibly most annoying) is emo. These guys are the most obnoxious emo band out there, and that deserves third place on this list.

4. Three Doors Down- Along with Nickelback, another corporate rock representative, making some of the dullest, sappy, and least creative music out there, and again garnering millions of fans.

5. Beastie Boys- I am incredulous that these bums are in the rock and roll hall of fame. There are many reasons to hate them, if not for their terrible music than for inspiring nu-metal.

6. Godsmack- You know how there’s always that one band that totally rips off your favorite band and manages to flat out suck? They somehow managed to trick some people that they stopped being an Alice in Chains cover band years ago. They haven’t tricked me.

7. Korn- The epitome of nu-metal is also the epitome of horrible music. Thank god their last few CDs have revealed to many what I knew from the start- the fact that they suck.

8. Hinder- Can you think of anything worse than trying to imitate Nickelback? These guys have made millions from doing just that, and it makes me sick.

9. Led Zeppelin- There probably won’t be too much controversy with my #1-9 picks (maybe just DMB), but this one is sure to rile people up. I just have never taken to classic rock. Maybe these guys sounded good in their day, but their songs just have not stood the test of time.

10. Limp Bizkit- No explanation needed. If you like them, you are either Fred Durst’s mom, or have a disability.

11. Papa Roach- Another nasty cross between corporate rock and nu-metal. I admit I like Last Resort, but one good song shouldn’t sell millions of records for these losers.

12. Linkin Park- They take the worst aspects of every band they ape. While Meteora had a couple of decent songs, the droves of horrendous bands it inspired far outweighs its contribution.

13. Justin Timberlake- He’s not rock, but he’s still overrated. Is copying Michael Jackson to the extent that he does really a good idea?

14. Rolling Stones- Had to throw another classic rock band in there. These guys prove that merely inspiring good bands doesn’t make a band good itself.

15. Guns n Roses- If not for their bad music than for Axel’s obnoxious histrionics.

16. U2- I admit they have their share of good songs. However there’s no reason that these guys should regularly be dubbed the “World’s Biggest Band.” Can anyone be more annoying while representing the right causes than Bono?

17. Pearl Jam- Maybe I’m still bitter that they receive more attention than the far superior Alice in Chains. Anyways, out of the Seattle Four they are by far the worst.

18. Bloc Party- I had a tough time picking the overrated indie rock band (choosing between LCD, White Stripes, and Arctic Monkeys). Refer to this page for the reasons these guys suck… 10 Most Overrated Indie Rock Bands

19. Creed- These guys were what, 5th wave of grunge? Anyways, as I always say, post grunge bands walk a fine line between greatness and destroying the sanctity of grunge. These guys are squarely in the latter column.

20. Coldplay- Had to throw them in there because they bring nothing new to the table. Similar to U2 (in many ways actually), they are mediocre and shouldn’t be as big as they are.

while I dis-agree with you on some things (I happen to like Nu Metal, and Classic Rock), I think that some of the stuff is funny is hell. Pearl Jam really does suck, being an Alice In Chains fan, I can much relate to that. I fucking hate emo.
are you kidding me IP:24.241.63.4 | 2008-01-01 05:01:42
so by saying that as "an Alice in Chains fan, I can much relate to that" does that mean you think Alice in Chains sucks? and by the way, thanks to Pearl Jam there was an Alice in Chains...PJ poops on emo... in diarrhea form
What IP:124.171.204.174 | 2007-10-30 02:47:49
Most of these bands are great you moron.

dude korn and zepplin are amazing, but coldplay and fall out boy are pretty retarded, but how is zepplin a rip off?! i don't get that.
The Rock Czar - what rip-off? IP:206.196.188.56 | 2007-11-07 09:11:25
Where did I say anything about Zeppelin being a rip-off? They most certainly aren't. I respect them, but I can't say I like them.

Your list is horrible. Without the stones or Zepplin there would be no such thing as rock and roll. you and your list are both jokes and you no nothing about music and its history. you should make a new website and call it the "I know absolutly nothing about music czar because i think Zepplin is overrated".
Matt - Nirvana IP:68.36.238.216 | 2007-12-22 14:10:10
If you replaced Led Zeppelin with Nirvana, I would agree with your list fully. The only grunge I like is Alice in Chains, the rest is terrible.
Charlie - Zepp IP:75.163.143.145 | 2007-12-23 19:14:41
The great thing about LZ is that they did so many different things and experimented with different types of music. There's something for everyone. Oh, and I totally agree with putting DMB at the top.
are you kidding me - what what what? IP:24.241.63.4 | 2008-01-01 04:56:33
you clearly have no taste and you contradict yourself all the time. for example: you say that inspiring good bands doesn't make you good...but inspiring bad bands makes you worse...so which is it? P.S. I do agree about Hinder, Nickelback , Linkin Park, Creed, Limp Bizkit, and any other band that is/has been on the radio for the past 10 years. But seriously Guns N' roses? Led Zeppelin? Pearl Jam?c'mon...overrated? they are rock...

Sorry bud, but DMB is the shit. I don't care what you say about Dave's voice, it rocks. It's not about the songs, it's about the music. They're using a different kind of style man. They have no lead guitar, a violin, some horns, a bass and drums. No other band has the balls to do that. No band can get as big as they are for no reason. Same with Zeplin.
Shay IP:122.169.132.230 | 2008-02-08 22:57:15
Coldplay and Bloc Party??
Are you fucking crazy? They're amazing!
Shane - Wow!! IP:68.102.2.68 | 2008-02-24 15:07:44
Led Zeppelin's songs have not stood the test of time?? What? You obviously don't know anything about rock music... If you knew anything about ROCK, you would know that Zeppelin created modern rock, and I guarantee Alice in Chains was inspired by Zep, and probable G'n'R for that matter. Your list is laughable, dude.

you got all this right: nickelback, three doors down, godsmack, korn, hinder limp bizkit, papa roach, linkin park, justin timberlake, bloc party, creed. thank god other people realise this. i'm not a big fan of most of the other bands, but they're okay. i don't agree with beastie boys, pearl jam, and the classic rock bands. however, unlike apparently a lot of people, i understand that these lists are matters of OPINION, something everyone is entitled to have and express. expressing a differing opinion is not saying "you suck".
The Rock Czar - Thanks IP:68.48.35.138 | 2008-02-29 21:16:15
It's nice to see that not everyone on the internet is angry and combative (just about 95% of people)! The few nice comments are that much more appreciated. Anyways, I actually need to update this list... I like PJ a lot more than I used to. Beasties still suck tho.
Liam Mcelligott - All wrong IP:80.4.207.172 | 2008-03-02 15:32:41
I may come across as young and naive, but i feel that most of the comments made above are pretty stupid. I think the most worrying thing in music is the take over of the extremely bland indie music. You Americans may not have it, but its the only shit we get over here. all of them are wank with the minor exception of we are scientists.
Gary McMillan - DMB IP:24.73.15.23 | 2008-03-09 12:10:25
Don't know where you got "annoying harmonica" for Dave Matthews Band considering no one in the band plays harmonica. Maybe you heard a song they played with John Popper, but even so if you think that then it shows you already know nothing about the band. I think you are biased because this is your most hated band. Dave Matthews sounds nothing like John Maier (by the way it's spelled Mayer) or Eddie Vedder. Dave is considered by many to be a great song writer and their drummer Carter Beauford is right up there with the best drummers of all time. Oh on top of that they are one of the best live bands I've ever seen. I've seen a lot of live bands and Dave Matthews ranks number 1 right in front of the who and the chili peppers. By the way saying Zeppelin doesn't stand the test of time makes no sense to me. There are a lot of bands out there that I don't like because they are not my style, but I still respect them for what they are.

I agree with many of the bands you list here.. I'm disabled and dislike Limp Bizkit, So fuck you.

Oh and I love alice in chains too.. but from all the reading I've been doing here tonight.. you have a weird fettish/fanboyism about them, they are a good band but I digress.

Also Led Zep was well before my time also. Some songs I can't stand (namely Stairway to Heaven) but Led Zep as a band over rated? Only if you are a pre-schooler.
The Rock Czar - Shit IP:68.48.35.138 | 2008-05-24 23:58:51

Looks like a few of those comments above can't take other people opinions as well

Loving the other articles though, inspired me to start listening to various bands, keep it up.

This list is beyond a joke (I've already stopped laughing)

Why is Guns N Roses on here? They are nowhere near one of the worst ever, in fact they are one of the best.

Why are Smashing Pumpkins not on here?
Anonymous IP:219.88.57.19 | 2008-06-09 15:21:57
Everybody with a decent knowledge of music knows that orgnanisations contracted with bands of different record companies are not neccessarily receiving too much attention or getting heaps of credit as much as those that sell outside of the United States. And as far as sales and critical accliam goes (you mentioned these factors at the top of this page in your introduction) these bands are not all American here. Led Zepplin for a start is British and Nickleback is Canadian. What you have obviously missed out on is that bands can be either underrated or overrated and it doesn't have to make a huge diffference whether they are from the United States or not.
Ronald - YEAH!!!! IP:125.236.44.50 | 2008-06-12 19:04:29
ROCK CZAR, PLEASE READ THE ABOVE "ANONYMOUS" COMMENT, SO THAT MY COMMENT MAKES SENSE!

Do you honestly think for a second, TRC, that we don't know just because bands can be contracted with different organisations for various reasons (namely, sponsoring) it doesn't mean that they recieve too much attention. And I would likem to echo what anonymous said?

DOES IT REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE (in your opinion) WHETHER THE ARTISTS ARE FROM THE UNITED STATES OR IF THEY GET HEAPS OF CREDIT OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES?

I THINK ABOUT FIFTY PEOPLE WOULD LIKE YOUR ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION!

TRC
David - I think I do! IP:122.57.94.127 | 2008-06-13 00:03:35
Rock Czar

You should know perfectly well what those two are talking about and I have to agree.

This is the "Top 20 Most Overrated Bands", yet not all of the artist are American, yet you still say that some American bands are overrated.

In easier wordsSome bands sell internationally others within their own country (namely the United States) and you say that this has a HUGE impact on the promotion or TOO MUCH CREDIT RECIEVED in regaurds to these artists who are from the United States, but other countries too.

Does that help?
The Rock Czar - What the hell... IP:68.48.35.138 | 2008-06-13 11:23:43
I have never said American bands are overrated. Where are you getting this? I love American bands!!!

TRC
David - What it's about IP:122.57.88.118 | 2008-06-13 21:50:35
It's not about American bands being overrated. It's about countries including the United States being able to sell within thier own country or internationally if they are good enough.

And talking about too much credit being recieved or promotion,(sponsoring and critical acclaim should not have been brought into trhis)but rather that some artists form overseas countries can have big hits in the United States and vice-versa. This is how some artists are internationally recognized both American, non-American and global.
Aaron IP:74.71.86.226 | 2008-06-24 17:58:31
i agree with most of these. just three exceptions: guns n' roses, the rolling stones, and led zeppelin
here's my problem, just because you don't like a band doesn't mean you have the right to call them overrated. guns n' roses, i kind of understand, because they weren't overly amazing besides slash. and the rolling stones, alright. to tell the truth, there wasn't a whole lot of talent in that band. both bands kind of got lucky and were in the right place at the right time. but led zeppelin? first off, jimmy paige is an insane guitarist. second, john bonham is, along with keith moon of the who, one of the greatest rock drummers who ever lived (just listen to moby dick, you'll know what i mean). and robert plant, though he gets annoying sometimes, has an incredible range few singers today have. and their songs haven't stood the test of time? i'd feel confident in saying that at least half of society has heard stairway to heaven, black dog, or immigrant song.
not to diss your favorite bands or anything, but the diversity and the talent in led zeppelin put next to alice in chains, nirvana, or just about any band you can think of is exceptional. to call them overrated is like saying the world's strongest man is a bitch, like them or not. i'm not really asking you to change, just read what i've said and comment back if you care to
The Rock Czar - Led IP:68.48.35.138 | 2008-06-29 21:18:17
I think for a band that, along with the Beatles and usually the Stones, is almost always in the top three of rock and roll, they frankly don't have the songs to back it up. Yes, I know a ton of their songs... this is mainly because there's no escaping them wherever you go. When I hear many of their songs I honestly just want to turn them off right away. I think songs like Whole Lotta Love and Heartbreaker are just awful. While others I have tremendous respect for- Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir, Black Dog, and All of my Love being the top of the list. To sum it up though, their resume is diverse, but it is mixed. For a band to have a resume like this and be called the greatest in the world is frankly, just wrong.

Anonymous - reply to Aaron IP:219.89.69.113 | 2008-06-28 16:20:28
and do you realise that some of the bands you have mentioned are American and some even have made sales outside the United States, though they may have different record companies they can still be sponsored or get attention from the media outside of the United States but to say that bands outside of the united states can be overrated by too much sponsoring when they are obviously not from the United States means nothing. American bands are not necessarily overrated in general. Nor are British bands or bands from any other country. Do you understand?
Aaron IP:74.71.86.226 | 2008-06-29 14:09:21
why do you guys make it about being american or foreign? yes, i disagree with some of the choices, namely led zeppelin. but here, the guy who made the list made no references to where the bands came from. though i disagree with his personal opinions frequently through the lists, there is no connection, he just simply thinks they receive too much credit. leave the nationality out of it. it's irrelevant and makes no sense. so please stop. he's already said there is no correlation between the bands' nationality and being on this list, so knock it off. anyway, i'd still like to know what you thought of my led zeppelin comment
The Rock Czar - Agreed IP:68.48.35.138 | 2008-06-29 21:19:49

Aaron IP:74.71.86.226 | 2008-06-30 11:48:41
i suppose when you put it that way you're right. to call them the greatest in the world is totally overrated, and in those regards i can't argue with you, because for every amazing song they have, they do have an incredibly obnoxious song. but i still think they have more talent than just about any band who ever performed, whether you liked their music or not
The Rock Czar - More or less IP:68.48.35.138 | 2008-07-01 10:05:48

i thought i would be the first person to pick this up but it seems to be about six people say, that have beaten me to it...

some of the bands are indeed american and have been sucessful overseas...

and who cares about record companies right? well who pays attenion to them anyway, still its not fair!

sponsoring and media outside the united states can be a way for american bands to get noticed in many countries...

bands from other countries can be overrated to? of course they can be.

american bands are not overrated as a whole that is true.

bands are not in general overrated anywhere no matter what country they are from.

ROCK CZAR I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM TELLING YOU WHAT ABOUT SIX PEOPLE HAVE TOLD YOU ALREADY ABOUT BANDS FROM THE UNITED STATES AND ABROAD! DO YOU LISTEN?

justin timberlake is extreamly talented and so was guns and roses with one of the best gutarist ever.

the beastie boys were pioneers

and how can you say coldplay brings nothin to the table?! i think they are making some of the best music in this era that is dominated by sorry ass wanna be thugs callin them selves rappers

but just like rock has gone down hill when the industry is dominated by masters of simplicity like nickel back

so has R&B and rap with suck boys like soulja boy

Yes, he is still gay.

But guess what, you are even worse!
Re-read what you wrote before.

Your first comment proved that you were gay enough to make Justin Timberlake look like a real man. What makes it even better now is your second comment which has actually backfired on you.

By saying that it takes someone really gay to make Justin Timberlake look a real man, indeed that still makes him gay, but you are essentially admitting that you far less straight than he is.
Ha-ha!

You homosexuals and your hilarious failed attempts at comebacks are enough to choke Bruce Jones to death with laughter. You have just made an even bigger fool of yourself. I do hope it was worth it.

I'm not gay, U are cause u like Timerlake and I don't, FAG

why are u sticking up for a gay man if u aren't gay yourself?

I wrote "if it takes SOMEONE relly gay" not myself, maybe u couldn't see that cause ur boyfriends nut sack was blocking your vision

I also hardly think it is possible to make a fool of yourself on something as insignificant as a post on a meaningless website.

So go listen to some nsync CD's so u and ur boyfriend can get in the mood for some fudgepacking

I'm on "Perfect Score 300"s side. Me it is YOU who is gay and yes you have made a fool of yourself.

I also reckon that "Perfect Score 300" is straight. Would a gay person use that sort of name? I think not! "Me" however is just stupid.

So I wouldn't bother trying to fight in a battle that it looks like you have already lost. That makes you look pathetic and desperate to gain back respect that you never deserved anyway.

So again, Shame me. I am 100% behind "Perfect Score 300" becuase he is right and you are wrong.

Have a nice day, the both of you. glad to end the conflict.
