Here I will list the top 20 bands that I believe receive too much attention, sales, critical acclaim, or credit these days. 1. Dave Matthews Band- On a list of my most hated bands they would also be no. 1. Everything about this band is annoying, ranging from Matthews’ incredibly irritating John Maier meets Eddie Vedder vocals to the annoying harmonica. 2. Nickelback- This abhorrent band, which I refer to as Nickelsack, is producing some of the lowest quality, least inspired music out there. Thus it should come as no surprise that they have a massive fan base and are all over the radio. 3. Fall Out Boy- There are three subcategories of rock which I detest: first is nu-metal, second is corporate rock, and third (and possibly most annoying) is emo. These guys are the most obnoxious emo band out there, and that deserves third place on this list. 4. Three Doors Down- Along with Nickelback, another corporate rock representative, making some of the dullest, sappy, and least creative music out there, and again garnering millions of fans. 5. Beastie Boys- I am incredulous that these bums are in the rock and roll hall of fame. There are many reasons to hate them, if not for their terrible music than for inspiring nu-metal. 6. Godsmack- You know how there’s always that one band that totally rips off your favorite band and manages to flat out suck? They somehow managed to trick some people that they stopped being an Alice in Chains cover band years ago. They haven’t tricked me. 7. Korn- The epitome of nu-metal is also the epitome of horrible music. Thank god their last few CDs have revealed to many what I knew from the start- the fact that they suck. 8. Hinder- Can you think of anything worse than trying to imitate Nickelback? These guys have made millions from doing just that, and it makes me sick. 9. Led Zeppelin- There probably won’t be too much controversy with my #1-9 picks (maybe just DMB), but this one is sure to rile people up. I just have never taken to classic rock. Maybe these guys sounded good in their day, but their songs just have not stood the test of time. 10. Limp Bizkit- No explanation needed. If you like them, you are either Fred Durst’s mom, or have a disability. 11. Papa Roach- Another nasty cross between corporate rock and nu-metal. I admit I like Last Resort, but one good song shouldn’t sell millions of records for these losers. 12. Linkin Park- They take the worst aspects of every band they ape. While Meteora had a couple of decent songs, the droves of horrendous bands it inspired far outweighs its contribution. 13. Justin Timberlake- He’s not rock, but he’s still overrated. Is copying Michael Jackson to the extent that he does really a good idea? 14. Rolling Stones- Had to throw another classic rock band in there. These guys prove that merely inspiring good bands doesn’t make a band good itself. 15. Guns n Roses- If not for their bad music than for Axel’s obnoxious histrionics. 16. U2- I admit they have their share of good songs. However there’s no reason that these guys should regularly be dubbed the “World’s Biggest Band.” Can anyone be more annoying while representing the right causes than Bono? 17. Pearl Jam- Maybe I’m still bitter that they receive more attention than the far superior Alice in Chains. Anyways, out of the Seattle Four they are by far the worst. 18. Bloc Party- I had a tough time picking the overrated indie rock band (choosing between LCD, White Stripes, and Arctic Monkeys). Refer to this page for the reasons these guys suck… 10 Most Overrated Indie Rock Bands 19. Creed- These guys were what, 5th wave of grunge? Anyways, as I always say, post grunge bands walk a fine line between greatness and destroying the sanctity of grunge. These guys are squarely in the latter column. 20. Coldplay- Had to throw them in there because they bring nothing new to the table. Similar to U2 (in many ways actually), they are mediocre and shouldn’t be as big as they are. New Post: 10/06/07 |
