Adam IP:67.173.195.17 | 2007-10-25 13:05:21
Crap AIC? Oh no, not another Nirvana fan that thinks that Nirvana is the greatest band ever. No offense, but Nirvana was the greatest shit band to eve exist. They sucked, but in a good way. Don't get me wrong, I like Nirvana, but, it seems like that Alice in Chains at least knew how to play their own instruments. In my opinion, the best grunge bands are:
3. Nirvana
2. Soundgarden
1.Alice in Chains
What, no Sponge or Pearl Jam? Why? Well, because they suck.
maum IP:196.40.10.253 | 2008-04-14 17:59:30
I agree with you. I mean Nirvana's my favorite along with alice and they can't be called crap. Besides, Pearl is good but they received too mouch attention
Melendez IP:70.240.178.40 | 2007-10-29 21:17:17
exactly adam. i dunno why everybody thinks nirvana is the best grunge band. fuck that. Alice in Chains was and will be the best band. they were always just behind nirvana's shadows. i really dont know why..
1. Alice In Chains
2. Stone Temple Pilots
3. Soundgarden
4. Nirvana
5. Smashing Pumpkins (i guess...)
Josh - why nirvana best IP:70.186.200.95 | 2007-11-09 11:35:07
It very simple they usherd the area in my mind they killed power ballad that guns n roses crap of puttin an album out 1 hour of music but at the same time 1 hour of sayin nothin i dont think it should be smell like teen spirit it should you know your right that was the end of grunge
Rachel IP:209.195.141.174 | 2007-11-01 17:27:25
holy crap, why cant the grunge fans just get along? People just dont seem to get that its a matter of opinion and to not be an ass b/c their favorite bands not number one. it's like highschool maturity level. i'd personally have..
1. Stone Temple Pilots
2. Alice in Chains
3. Nirvana
4. Soundgarden

..but i'm not going to go start a bitch fight over it. different bands for different tastes.
Jamie - Um no IP:72.131.90.187 | 2007-11-04 21:00:00
hey, im not a whiny nirvana fan but seriously, Nirvana should be number 1. if it wasnt for Nirvana we'd still have hair bands and Bret Micheals singing to us. oh god!! Nirvana opened the door so even though im sick of Teen Spirit, it deserves to be number 1
Anonymous - Pearl Jam are the best! IP:213.94.133.225 | 2007-11-16 12:40:28
Nirvana are good but Kurts death made them bigger, and because of that you see stupid little kids waring Nirvana
t-shirts and dont have a clue about Pearl Jam who's debut album Ten (not even the best album they made) outsold Nirvana's best Nevermind in the U.S.
justin - this list is wrong!!!!!! IP:209.175.47.154 | 2007-11-19 14:47:56
i am a big stp fan and i think plush and sex type thing should be way higher than what they were ranked. also nirvana should be #1 and pearl jam black should be #2 AIC #3 stp#4 and Soundgarden #5
Taylor - Fuck the list.. I just wanted IP:154.5.88.115 | 2007-11-22 22:23:42
Soundgardens NUMBER ONE!!! In a tie with AIC : )

This list makes emo kids not want to kill themselves
-_-
LivedtheEra - Been there and did that IP:213.255.230.3 | 2008-04-05 10:04:28
Of course we all have our opinions, I myself am a die hard PJ fan, for my money it just does not get any better. I was lucky enough to have spent my prime party years with these bands (I am now 3. Nirvana definitely deserves their place, they did take Michael Jackson out of the loop in '88, AIC is without a doubt one of the greatest! Just remember this, since this era is still being discussed and the kids want to wear the shirts speaks volumes to the music we got to grow up with, unlike the 80's trash and hair bands, thank god for grunge!
The Rock Czar - Here Here! IP:206.196.188.56 | 2008-04-07 08:02:49
You are so right. I mean I'm somewhat younger, but I love that era as much as any 30 something.

The only reason Ten sold more than Nevermind was cause Nirvana had already brought the grunge genre in. Converting people to grunge is a lot harder than selling what is already popular.
Top 10 viewer - Chained In By Alice IP:210.54.231.166 | 2008-04-25 16:09:33
hey i think your website is good and i don't see a point in arguing about what you have or haven't included like a lot of people have done. I am however stunned to believe that someone would give more than half of their top 10 to Alice In Chains.
TRC IP:68.48.35.138 | 2008-05-06 23:25:22
What can I say... AIC owned grunge. Nirvana was great, but they were a full step bellow AIC.
Shelby - Nirvana? IP:209.214.97.76 | 2008-05-03 11:36:20
i dont have the biggest thing for Nirvana
i mean..Kurts death made them bigger..but they still cant play worth a crap. he died basiclly because he was under the influence of pot..so has anyone tried to play the guitar and smoke pot at the same time? i dont think so.
Jenn - Wait what? IP:76.16.105.243 | 2008-05-27 04:18:44
First, a lot of people smoke weed and play their instruments. Some argue that it brings out their creativity.
Second, Nirvana could play. Listen to their Unplugged album.

Smells Like Teen Spirit was the breakout song that brought everyone out of the 80's. Truth is that if it hadn't been Nirvana, it could have been PJ or AiC. It was a matter of who the radio stations chose to play.

Oh and the Foos aren't grunge. They're more hard rock, I'd say. And to the guy below, Tool is progressive, far from the grunge scene.
gThoma23 - AIC ALL DAY IP:71.195.228.84 | 2008-05-04 14:12:09
Love this list, alice in chains is amazing. thought that would? should be alot higher, but that's me. and may be wrong, but isn't Tool considered grunge? if they are, they got a ton of songs that should be on here. and same with Pearl Jam.
MusicFreak - eh.?.?. IP:75.120.6.221 | 2008-05-05 19:04:52
anonymous person.
how can you say that about "kids" wearing nirvana shirts saying that they dont even listen to Pearl Jam.
ok go to walmart and see kids in Nirvana shirts do you actualy walk up to them and say " do you listen to pearl jam if not you suck" i could actually see you doing that.
But look im 14 and damn proud.
i go almost everywere in nirvana shirts.
i have all of them execpt one and thats the one with Kurt in the dress.
I have kurt cobain dog tags, bag , key chain.
everything you could think of.
i know ppl are probaly thinking she wasnt even born when he was still alive
THINK AGAIN.
i was thank you very much.
they had a concert the day i was born.
i listen to pearl jam also.
so dont go saying that people who wear Nirvana shirts dont even listen to pearl jam.
i went to the mall and bought a peaerl jam cd the same day i bought the utero Nirvana one.
your not the one wearing the shirt so dont speak for everyone who is wearing it.

and the list,
It is placed right.
Good to see Alice in Chains on top.
Great list.
James - Oh my lord. IP:90.205.124.185 | 2008-06-01 10:48:40
Listen, I'm 17, and I was in a similar state to you three years ago. Nothing personal here, but hey, the guy or girl who said that before is right... It's like, the amount of people who wear the Nirvana top with the smiley on, it's disgusting, they only wear it because they want to be cool. Pearl Jam is a way better band than Nirvana, Mike Mccready is an amazing guitarist to listen to. Anyway, the top with the dress on, listen to Tearjerker by Red Hot Chili Peppers, one of their good old songs. It's about Kurt, and the first line 'first time I saw you, you were sitting backstage in a dress, a perfect mess' is the day he was playing a show with Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Anyway, yeah, you may be different, but so many kids wear those t-shirts because they use Cobain's death as an instrument to look cool. AiC were awesome, on a separate note, but the lack of Pearl Jam, and certainly Temple of the Dog, means it's lacking. Check out Temple of the Dog on youtube. Pearl Jam plus Chris Cornell and minus
Vedder for all but one. Amazing sole album.

exactly.
same about candlebox they put far behind up but they should have had you,
also.
Ash - Candlebox, 'garden, etc IP:83.218.154.238 | 2008-05-07 05:53:08
Well, 'Blossom' is one of Candlebox's best songs... and had the great fortune to see (and meet with) Soundgarden on Superunknown tour (UK)... CHOICE!!!
John S - Knuckles IP:68.54.255.40 | 2008-05-13 01:07:01
Let's face it. Smells Like Teen Spirit is the best grunge song of all time. If there is an AIC song that's better, it would be Them Bones, or at least something from Dirt. I'll agree that AIC is overall the best grunge band though. I think Pearl Jam is underrepresented, although everything after Ten pretty much sucked.
John S - Knuckles IP:68.54.255.40 | 2008-05-13 01:08:54
Also, good to see the Toadies are well represented.
uallsuck - nevermind IP:76.253.138.36 | 2008-05-20 08:49:18
Why cant all you people realize that Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, werent all there was to music in the nineties, what about bands like bush, Plus to all you fucking lovers of Nirvana, you will see that in every interview with Nirvana they hated when people called them grunge, they hated it. They never wanted that title but all you closed minded rejects had to and still insist on throwing them in that category which is a slap in the face to them, So good job!! I wish people actually new what they were talking about before they go and post to make themselves feel special!!
Canabee - Grunge is one of the reason I IP:213.42.23.71 | 2008-05-22 07:24:09
The Best Grunge Bands:
1. Soundgarden
2. Alice in Chains
3. Stone Temple Pilots
4. Nirvana
5. Screaming Trees
6. Toadies
7. Gren
8. Mad Season
9. Temple of the Dog
10.Bush

These bands all have their own Identity. (Although some of them are just mixing up with another) But this era was comparable to the 70's were until now, their songs remain fresh and being copied by bands in the present and maybe in the near future.
sober alcoholic - reply to uallsuck IP:219.88.58.120 | 2008-05-24 21:44:35
Well "Uallsuck" we really do suck don;t we. We suck at not finding it hilarious that you actually sucked your dad's balls. Yes that's right everybody. When "Uallsuck" was fourteen daddy was tied up and subject to a licking he would never forget. Completley out of control, who can ever stop laughing at "Uallsuck. Crackup. I could reveal the real name of this identity but i think i have embarrassed enough. Oh well who can help it.

HAHA!
grunge is amazing - nirvana should be number 1 IP:76.177.124.189 | 2008-05-30 19:38:21
Nirvana should be number 1. Whether you think they are truely talented or not they made grunge popular and influenced all types of music. Alice in Chains is amazing, but I think Nirvana represented the grunge era better and should have had more songs in the list.

I was happy to see the Toadies on the list!!!

Foo Fighters are not grunge and Bush is more post-grunge and not a definitive band of the grunge era.

Pretty good list-Nirvana is WAY better than AIC. And NIRVANA can play their instruments!! Listen to any of their albums especially MTV unplugged!!
hmmm - silverchair IP:121.45.111.207 | 2008-06-06 06:39:08
i know theres alot of "poser", and "copy-cat", tags givin to silverchair, but the fact is they wrote alot of great songs (before they sold out...) and alot more of their stuff deserves to be here, e.g. Freak, Israil's son, suicidal dreams, blind, tommorrow, etc...
Anonymous IP:202.7.176.131 | 2008-06-12 01:59:00
