1. My Bloody Valentine- Details are cursory, but this seems pretty official. It will contain material spanning the mid 90s as well as several newly recorded songs. The anticipation of this record will have indie rock fans all across the world wetting their pants.
2. Muse- 2008 may be a tad ambitious, but word is that production is going smoothly with an intended late 2008 release. Muse is one of my favorite bands right now, so the sooner the better. Word has it that this album will be quite electronic in sound.
3. Franz Ferdinand- These talented Scots plan an early 2008 release but look for it to be out around summer time. Question is, will it be an album you could “Come on Home” to like the first release or one that could have been “So Much Better” as the case was with the second.
4. Built to Spill- Although they will be touring in the first part of 2008, upon last word they are supposed to release an album in 2008. After their 5 year hiatus in the early part of the 2000s, they owe us 2 quick ones.
5. Colin Meloy- This one’s slated for an April release date, and will be called Skulls, Ship, Sheep. The name suggests that it won’t be radically different from his material with the Decemberists (and this is a very good thing).
6. R.E.M.- People have been quite harsh on these alternative pioneers. However, even diehards like myself know that R.E.M. needs Accelerate to do just that to their sagging careers. Release is set for April 1st.
7. The Hold Steady- Their last three albums have been killer, and expectations will obviously be running high. I’d say a bit of growth is to be expected for their fourth full length album. Expect a release in the second half of ’08.
8. Oasis- Their last album was too average for a superb band to make. Their next release should be in stores in the Spring. It is said to have a psychedelic sound, one hopefully not reminiscent of Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.
9. Coldplay- Prospekt will be one of the most hyped releases of the year. I’ll be happy with anything even remotely as good as A Rush of Blood to the Head. These guys need to do something new and creative (X&Y pt.2 will make me very pissed off). Look for it to be out by June.
10. Weezer- Just as we hold our breath for each act of the Britney Spears train wreck show, we ‘eagerly’ await the latest in a series of legacy killing albums from Weezer. Though many are through with Britney, I will give Weezer one more chance, I guess.
